Geostrophic transport of the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) is estimated from optimally-interpolated temperature data along a frequently repeated expendable bathythermograph (XBT) section between Fremantle, Australia and Sunda Strait, Indonesia and from two historical temperature-salinity (T/S) relationship products, CSIRO Atlas for Regional Seas (CARS) and Levitus (1982). The annual mean ITF geostrophic transport relative to 400 m during 1984–2001 is estimated to be 4.6 Sv using the CARS T/S relationship, which is about 20% higher than that found using the Levitus T/S relationship. This transport increment is due to the fact that the CARS T/S relationship, which incorporates more recent hydrographic data, better resolves the low-salinity signature of the ITF water. Isothermal averaging in the CARS T/S relationship may also improve representations of the water mass signatures in deep layers.  相似文献

Test geochemistry of planktonic foraminifera is an indispensable tool in reconstructing past ocean hydrological changes. It is essential to investigate region-specific implications of test geochemistry,although those established from other regions can be broadly applied. In this study, characteristics of6180 and Mg/Ca from tests of four planktonic foraminiferal species, Globigerinoides ruber sensu stricto(s.s.), Globigerinoides sacculifer, Pulleniatina obliquiloculata and Neogloboquadrina dutertrei, from 60 coretop sediment samples retrieved from the Indonesian Throughflow(ITF) region were studied. These geochemical data were compared with modern hydrographic profiles in order to assess their relations and to investigate potential implications of test geochemical parameters in reconstructing past oceanographic change in the ITF region. Calcification depths of these four species were first estimated based on comparison between measured test δ180 and predicted calcite δ18O that was calculated from modern temperature and salinity. The results indicate that G. ruber s.s. and G. sacculifer calcify within the mixedlayer at 0-50 m and 20-75 m, respectively, whereas P. obliquiloculata and N. dutertrei calcify within the thermocline at around 75 to 125 m. A combined study of excess Mg/Ca(difference between measured and predicted Mg/Ca) and salinity suggests that salinity exerts a negligible impact on test Mg/Ca of these foraminiferal species in the ITF region. Comparison of test Mg/Ca-derived temperatures with temperature profiles of the upper 200 m of the water column from the seas of the ITF region also indicate calcification depths of these species, which match well with the above estimations using test δ18O. It further indicates that G. sacculifer may be more sensitive in reflecting changes in the depth of the mixedlayer, highlighting a potential use of Mg/Ca temperature difference between G. ruber s.s. and G. sacculifer in reconstructing the depth of the mixed-layer in the ITF region.  相似文献

To study the effect of hydrographic factors on the spatial distributions of chlorophyll a (Chl a), an investigation was carried out in the tropical eastern Indian Ocean (80 -100 E along 7 S, and 7 -18 S along 80 E) in December 2010. The fluorescent method was used to obtain total Chl a and size-fractioned Chl a at the 26 stations. The results show that surface Chl a concentration averaged at (0.168 ± 0.095) mg/m 3 s.d. (range: 0.034-0.475 mg/m 3 ), concentrations appeared to be higher in the west for longitudinal variations, and higher in the north for latitudinal variations. Furthermore, the surface Chl a concentration was lower (0.034-0.066 mg/m 3 ) in the region to the south of 16 S. There was a strong subsurface Chl a maximum layer at all stations and the depth of the Chl a maximum increased towards to the east and south along with the respective nitracline. The spatial variation of Chl a was significant: correlation and regression analysis suggests that it was primarily affected by PO 3 4 , N(NO 3 -N+NO 2 -N) and temperature. Size-fractionated Chl a concentration clearly showed that the study area was a typical oligotrophic open ocean, in which picophytoplankton dominated, accounting for approximately 67.8% of total Chl a, followed by nanophytoplankton (24.5%) and microphytoplankton (7.6%). The two larger fractions were sensitive to the limitation of P, while picophytoplankton was primarily affected by temperature.  相似文献

浮游有孔虫深水种Globoquadrina dehiscens于10Ma左右从西太平洋和南海绝灭, 要比其他地区早大约3Ma.伴随这一事件还见以表层暖水种增多而深水种大幅度减少为主要特征的生物群变化.古生物和氧同位素结果指示当时表层水变暖和温跃层变深, 我们认为是与早期西太平洋暖池的发育有关.该种在西北和西南太平洋呈阶段性消失也说明暖水堆集比赤道区更强, 尽管印尼海道在晚中新世已大为变窄, 穿越印尼海道的径流可能尚保持较高的通量水平而使赤道区暖水堆集不特别明显.南海的浮游氧同位素值通常比开放西太平洋的低, 也说明中新世时期的上层海水环境与现代相似, 都是暖池边缘区比中心区变化大.暖池边缘区水体环境多变和温度梯度较高可能是受季风的影响, 结果造成深水种的降低和G.dehiscens提早从南海地区绝灭.   相似文献

The El Niño of 1997–1998 produced the most intenseimpact on the conterminous U.S.A., generating a seriesof powerful rain and wind storms off the coast ofCalifornia in early February 1998. The 1997–1998 ElNiño also produced severe flooding and extensive mudslides along the west coast of South America andprolonged drought conditions in northeast Brazil. Onthe other (west) side of the equatorial Pacific, the El Niño produced the worst drought in 50 years overIndonesia and helped spread the ongoing forest fireson the island of Borneo to well over one millionacres. In this paper, the smoke and pollution problem overMalaysia will be analyzed in the context of ongoingIndonesian forest fires and the severity of the 1997El Niño – a deadly combination which led to the mosthazardous smoke problem over Malaysia duringAugust–September 1997. The severity of the smokepollution is documented using media reports andavailable API (air pollution index) values overselected cities in Malaysia. The role of the El Niñoand its evolution in enhancing the smoke pollutionover Malaysia is further discussed and suitably documented.Some of the mitigation measures presently beingadopted in Malaysia to combat the smoke pollution arebriefly discussed.  相似文献

经典皮克特图版由阿尔奇公式推导而来,但无法处理泥质砂岩储层。本文以南海西部海域W油田作为研究对象,从印度尼西亚公式出发,对经典皮克特图版进行改进,开发出了泥质砂岩皮克特图版。通过对比分析经典皮克特图版与泥质砂岩皮克特图版的不同,指出在含泥质砂岩储层测井解释评价中使用泥质砂岩皮克特图版的重要性,并提出利用迭代法精确求解地层水电阻率及岩电参数的方法。研究表明:使用改进的泥质砂岩皮克特图版计算得到的地层水电阻率与纯水层的计算结果保持一致;同时,相比于经验值,使用迭代法求解出的地层水电阻率及岩电参数与实际情况更为吻合。  相似文献

文章基于2004年1月~2006年11月的"国际努加登沙层结与输运"(international Nusantara stratification and transport,INSTANT)计划以及2006年11月~2011年7月的"印度尼西亚贯穿流观测"(monitoring the Indonesian throughflow,MITF)计划的实测数据,从长时间序列研究印度尼西亚贯穿流的变化。在望加锡海峡中,印度尼西亚贯穿流的周期信号分布非常丰富,涵盖潮汐、季节内、季节和年际信号。对于季节变化,东南季风期间温跃层深度上最大南向流速约为1.0m·s-1,而西北季风期间最大南向流速约为0.8m·s-1。印度尼西亚贯穿流的年际变化与尼诺3.4区指数(NINO3.4)呈正相关,最大相关系数大约在NINO 3.4前1~2个月;水深150m以上,印度尼西亚贯穿流与偶极子模态指数(dipole mode index,DMI)呈负相关,200m以下呈正相关,在时间上较DMI滞后约1~2个月。季节变化的经验正交分解(empirical orthogonal function,EOF)前2个模态方差的总贡献率为97%,其中第一模态为65%,第二模态为32%;年际变化的EOF前2个模态的方差贡献率为90%,其中第一模态为51%,第二模态为39%。季节变化的第二模态和年际变化的第一模态表征赤道印度洋开尔文波模态,该模态的空间结构在垂向会发生相位反转;季节变化的第一模态和年际变化的第二模态表征赤道太平洋罗斯贝波(Rossby waves)的厄尔尼诺与南方涛动(El Ni?o and southern oscillation,ENSO)模态,其垂向的空间结构变化比较一致。  相似文献

文章采用三维海洋模式MITgcm, 对印度尼西亚海(简称印尼海)内潮的生成和传播过程进行了研究。研究结果表明: 1)苏拉威西海和西北太平洋地区的内潮呈现明显的全日潮信号; 望加锡海峡、翁拜海峡、东北印度洋、帝汶海等站位的内潮呈现明显的半日潮信号; 2)印尼海区内潮的标准化振幅在苏拉威西海、望加锡海峡、翁拜海峡、马鲁古海、班达海、东北印度洋和西北太平洋地区均在温跃层附近达到最大, 约为20~40m; 在帝汶海地区在水深200m附近达到最大, 约为25~30m; 3)桑岭、斯兰海、翁拜海峡和帝汶海是主要的内潮生成区域, 内潮能通量达40kW·m-1; 4)苏禄海的内潮能量主要来自于局地正压潮的转化, 苏拉威西海和班达海的内潮能量则主要来自外部的传入。  相似文献
